Our Core Programs

Salam central School’s Out Summer Camp

Our annual summer day camp began in 2022 for Muslim children aged 6 to 12. Each year, we offer a three-week-long camp for Muslim kids in Surrey, hosted in partnership with United Way BC. The camp encourages children to build friendships with peers who share similar religious and cultural values.

Running Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the program serves up to 60 children each week. Activities include sports, arts and crafts, Islamic storytelling, outdoor games, and Jummah. We also give campers access to exciting field trips and hands-on workshops—opportunities that often come with economic barriers, which we work to remove through our low-barrier, free camp.

With strong support from dedicated youth volunteers, we’ve created a safe, welcoming space where Muslim children can feel seen, respected, and empowered. Each year, we receive overwhelmingly positive responses from both parents and participants. Many families return annually, and the camp continues to be a source of joy, growth, and connection for the community.

Annual Iftar Series

Every year during Ramadan, we host a weekly themed Iftar series for the community, with turnouts ranging from 60 to 200 attendees. These gatherings are designed to create a warm, welcoming space where people of all ages can come together to break their fast, reflect, and build community.

Our Iftar events go beyond just a meal—they offer meaningful programming that strengthens connection to faith and community. In past years, we've hosted Ramadan toolkit-making sessions, Ramadan-themed arts and crafts, journaling workshops, and panel dinners featuring local voices. These Iftars serve as platforms for education, creativity, and spiritual growth.

We’ve also partnered with local mosques and grassroots organizers to hold special events such as youth Itikaf nights and fundraisers in solidarity with communities in Sudan and Palestine. Through these efforts, our Iftar series continues to center youth leadership, collective care, and community-driven action during the holiest month of the year.

Monthly Activities

In addition to our seasonal events, we host free monthly programs for both kids and youth. These events are designed to build a sense of belonging and offer consistent opportunities for connection for our community.

Each month, youth are invited to join in on fun, themed activities that encourage creativity, friendship, and personal growth. Past events have included two basketball tournaments—one for boys and one for girls—calligraphy workshops, discussion nights, DIY “build your own pizza” nights, game nights, and journaling sessions.

By centring youth voices and interests, our monthly programs create meaningful experiences that strengthen community while remaining accessible to all.
